The days are getting shorter, beaches are closing, and schools are back in session. Summer’s almost over, so why not reminisce by looking back at a few of summer’s hottest Kickstarter campaigns? It’s time for us to feature some of the most rapidly funded projects in August, some of which are still open to backers if you’re interested!
These rapidly funded Kickstarter campaigns come from a wide variety of categories, including a few tabletop games, robots, 3D printing, nonfiction, technology, webseries, design, and gadgets projects. My favorite is #8 (who knew drones could go underwater?!).
1. Unstable Unicorns: Control & Chaos (The Backercorn Project)
Amount Funded: $2M+
Number of Backers: 22K+
Average Pledge per Backer: $91
Duration: August 13 – September 14 (30 days)
Ramy Badie’s Unstable Unicorns: Control and Chaos Kickstarter campaign was incredibly successful, raising over $2M for two Kickstarter-exclusive, standalone strategic card games. The project reached it’s $50K funding goal in just 24 minutes!
The goal of Unstable Unicorns is to be the first person to build an army of seven unicorns. These new games are compatible with the original Unstable Unicorns, which raised over $1.8 million on Kickstarter in September 2017. They were available at $25 for one game or as little at $44 for both.
2. Vector by Anki: A giant roll forward for robot kind.
Amount Funded: $1.8M+
Number of Backers: 8K+
Average Pledge per Backer: $226
Duration: August 8 – September 7 (30 days)
Vector is a cute little robot that took Kickstarter by storm in August, raising nearly $2 million dollars from over 8 thousand backers. One of the things that makes this campaign special is the fact that it is now the most funded robotics Kickstarter project ever.
Anki’s home robot was designed to be affordable and life-like, reacting to the world around him, answering questions, taking pictures, and more. Vector was available to US backers exclusively on Kickstarter starting at $199 for early backers.
3. Dazz 3D | The Most Advanced LCD SLA 3D Printer
Amount Funded: $187K+
Number of Backers: 200+
Average Pledge per Backer: $849
Duration: August 29 – October 13 (45 days)
Kickstarter has seen many 3D printing projects over the last few years, so many that 3D printing has its own category. With each successful campaign, these printers are becoming more advanced and precise.
From now until October 13th, starting at $599, you can back Dazz 3D, a user-friendly, professional grade 3D printer that’s wireless, uses touch screen controls, and prints with incredible detail. One perk of this 3D printer is that not only is the printer itself affordable, so is the resin that’s sold with it.
4. Starcadia Quest
Amount Funded: $935K+
Number of Backers: 6K+
Average Pledge per Backer: $111
Duration: August 28 – September 11 (15 days)
Another thing that Kickstarter has no shortage of is tabletop games projects. The second game on this list, Starcadia Quest, is CMON’s 33rd successful Kickstarter campaign. In this game, the objective is to lead your crew in an action-packed space adventure where you face off against other crews and aliens.
This project only ran for 14 days. During that time backers could get the core game for $80.
5.
Creator(s): John Staats
Amount Funded: $322K+
Number of Backers: 4K+
Average Pledge per Backer: $73
Duration: August 28 – September 25 (28 days)
Most of us have heard of World of Warcraft. If you’ve never played it yourself, chances are you know someone who has. But do you know what it took for WoW to become so popular? The World of Warcraft Diary is a candid, in-depth account of how the game was made from one of the developers.
This 336 full-color page book is available on Kickstarter electronically for $30 or in print for $40 until September 25th.
6.
Creator(s): Feel Three
Amount Funded: $111K+
Number of Backers: 65
Average Pledge per Backer: $1,720
Duration: August 28 – September 27 (31 days)
Virtual reality is another thing that has been very trendy lately, with many different projects being launched to help advance VR technology and get it into the hands of the average person. This campaign is a little different, since it involves not only your standard VR headset but also incorporates a customizable motion simulator.
This campaign is still open until September 27th. Very early bird backers can get one standard simulator for at home use starting at approximately $2,614 USD.
7.
Creator(s): The Aquabats!
Amount Funded: $432K+
Number of Backers: 3K+
Average Pledge per Backer: $140
Duration: August 28 – September 29 (33 days)
The Bring Back THE AQUABATS Kickstarter campaign reached its $100K funding goal in under 30 minutes, meaning they’ll be releasing a new album and going on tour next year. In under four hours, they reached their $250K stretch goal allowing them to create at least 6 new episodes of The Aquabats! Super Show! to be released online.
If the project reaches $500K, the Aquabats! will release an additional six episodes and a live concert album. Backers of this campaign have a variety of rewards to choose from, including the new album, stickers, a soundtrack, videos, patches, t-shirts, posters, and more.
8. SPRY: A waterproof drone that submerges under water & flies
Amount Funded: $158K+
Number of Backers: 150+
Average Pledge per Backer: $929
Duration: August 28 – October 1 (34 days)
If you’re like me and you spend a lot of time browsing through Kickstarter campaigns, you’ve probably seen quite a few drones being funded on the platform. Drones have gone from being complex and expensive to more user-friendly and affordable thanks to projects like these.
SPRY is different from a lot of the drone campaigns on Kickstarter because this drone not only flies but is also waterproof! For as little as $769, backers can get this cool drone that can be used in the air and underwater.
9.
Creator(s): Don Moyer
Amount Funded: $153K+
Number of Backers: 1K+
Average Pledge per Backer: $116
Duration: August 20 – September 16 (28 days)
Creator Don Moyer is no stranger to our rapidly funded lists of Kickstarter campaigns. I’ve been following him ever since he started launching his whimsical Calamityware dinner plates. This campaign is Moyer’s 36th, which suggests that I’m not the only one that finds these creations amusing.
The Things-Could-Be-Worse Tea Set is a porcelain set that features over a dozen “calamities, perils, and pests”, including a voracious sea monster, UFOs, and a zombie poodle (to name a few). The full set was available on Kickstarter for $153.
10.
Creator(s): BEDJET, LLC
Amount Funded: $714K+
Number of Backers: 1K+
Average Pledge per Backer: $378
Duration: August 8 – October 4 (57 days)
There’s nothing worse than going to bed and being super warm and sweaty, except maybe going to bed and being too cold. When you add another person into the mix, things can get even more complicated since each other’s body heat can throw off the temperature in bed and make it harder to get a good night’s sleep.
BedJet 3 solves these problems with intelligent bed cooling and warming. This system is quiet and only uses air to help you get to sleep faster, stay asleep longer, and even wake you up gently without the use of a noisy alarm clock. The BedJet 3 system is available starting at $249 for single zone (one person) or $458 for dual zone (two people).
Conclusion
Kickstarter is a great place to go if you’re interested in backing unique items and projects that you don’t see every day and won’t find anywhere else. Altogether, these ten campaigns that launched in August have raised a whopping 6M+ from over 45K backers and they aren’t all finished yet!
It’s also the perfect place to go if you’re ready to get your own dream project or invention funded (with a little preparation, of course). If you’re thinking of launching your own Kickstarter campaign, check out our new course, the Kickstarter Launch Formula (Proven Tactics and Strategies).
