5 Kickstarter Manufacturing Tips

So, you’re ready to manufacture your product, but you don’t wanna screw it up!

The worst thing that can happen is that you successfully launch a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign and then fail to deliver on your rewards.

Or, worse, people get their rewards, but the product doesn’t work. I want to save you from that nightmare.

That’s why I’ve put together a series of important tips to take into consideration when you’re getting your Kickstarter product manufactured.

This video alone could save you thousands of dollars in manufacturing costs! It can help speed up the entire fulfillment process for your project.

Let’s discuss what we talked about…

What is manufacturing?

Manufacturing is simply the process where take a prototype and get it made into lots of finished products. You’re taking one design and making a heck of a lot of physical functional replicas of it.

Sounds easy right?

Wrong!

What makes manufacturing complicated is that that there are so many stages to the actual process. There are typically other human beings involved in the process as well. This means, problems are gonna come up.

In order to go from prototype to finished product, you need to work on developing efficient systems to handle each stage of the supply chain.

I explore a bit about that in this video here.

Where does manufacturing go wrong?

All too often, we don’t anticipate delays, problems, and the need for quality control. When you hand off your vague designs to someone else, and expect the to be able to create thousands of your product, it’s a recipe for disaster.

Manufacturing goes wrong when you don’t take into account these tips. Plain and simple.

The scary part is, this can happen at any stage during the manufacturing process. Each stage is unique in the types of problems that may arise. Some of these problems you can control, and others you can’t.

For example, if a global event or disaster happens, you can’t control that. It may impact your supply chain, and thus, your ability to deliver products and grow your revenue.

How can you create a killer system?

Now that you know it’s all about the systems you put in place, you might be wondering how to create a robust and seamless one.

I touch on this in the video. The only other thing that I would add is that great systems are based on knowing what outcomes can be expected.

In other words, you plan for the worst, but hope for the best. Some systems are made up of individuals that can help you to execute goals. Others include tools that will help you manage the entire process.

I actually share one service that I think could really level-up your game, especially if you’re going to get your product manufactured in China.

Break out a simple blank sheet of white paper and begin to diagram your supply chain. List out the resources that are required to make your product from the materials to the assembly.

What needs to be created still, from molds to designs?

What portion of the world is best at creating this type of product?

You don’t have to get super complicated, but even a simple diagram will help you to think better about the future systems you’ll need to design.

What’s the next step?

Take a second to watch this video, then dive into the Kickstarter Launch Formula. I have some great chapters on estimating costs regarding your crowdfunding campaign.

These chapters will be essential when you’re trying to pinpoint how you can launch this product, stay profitable, and also surge past your fundraising goal.

Lastly, you gotta take action. Get on the call with manufacturers. Get boots on the ground if possible. Really make this your side project and give it the time it deserves.

Once you put in the hard word, you’ll have a clear idea of the manufacturing systems and be able to have a much more hands-off approach.
