This week’s list of rapidly funded Kickstarter projects stands out from some of the other ones in a couple ways. For one thing, all of these projects started on October 14th. Just three days after launching, each project has met its fundraising goal (and exceeded it). Three of the projects are Kickstarter Staff Picks, and two of them are working hard to spread some social good.
The level of art, design, and passion that goes into these projects is impressive. Even though I think they’re all great my favorite is #4!
#1. WakaWaka Base: a Power & Light First Aid Kit
Creators: WakaWaka
Amount Funded: $176k+
Number of Backers: 1.4k+
Average Pledge per Backer: $124
Duration: Oct 14 2014 – Nov 13 2014 (30 days)
This Kickstarter Staff Pick is WakaWaka’s third project, “[A] compact portable solar power kit. A single day of sunlight is enough for multiple phone charges or an entire week of light.”
Their last was WakaWaka Power, a solar power station for smartphones, iPads, and iPhones. The kit comes with a solar panel, two compact LED lights, a charger with three USB ports, and a pouch to carry it all in. One really cool reason to support this project is that for every product sold the company gives one to those in need in electricity in developing countries!
#2. The uKeg Pressurized Growler for Fresh Beer
Creators: GrowlerWerks
Amount Funded: $320k+
Number of Backers: 2.4k+
Average Pledge per Backer: $118
Duration: Oct 14th – Dec 7th (54 days)
GrowlerWerks has come up with an easy way to keep your favorite craft beer fresh, replacing the inconvenient glass growler. The uKeg is designed to be portable, durable, and comes with a handle. It is made using “[v]acuum insulated stainless steel with carbonation cap, pressure gauge and tap.”
This product makes it easy to buy microbrews that aren’t available in the bottle, bring them home, and pour them easily, without having to worry about it going flat or getting warm. The team has a lot of rewards for backers, including coasters, pint glasses, shirts, and the uKeg itself of course. One of their stretch goals is to offer the uKeg with custom engravings!
#3. KEECKER – The World’s First HomePod
Creators: KEECKER
Amount Funded: $174k+
Number of Backers: 185
Average Pledge per Packer: $978
Duration: Oct 14th – Nov 18th (35 days)
KEECKER has been mentioned in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and on CNN (to name a few). “Equipped with a 360° audio & video camera and a powerful video projection system that moves up and down at a 90°, KEECKER allows you to project movies & images, listen to music, browse the web, make video calls, play video games and even create home decoration.”
The design is sleek and the HomePod can be made to go into any room and is controlled by smartphone. It also gives updates on the status of your home (temperature, CO2, noise level, etc.) and allows you to check in when you’re not there.
#4. Just Getting Good
Creators: Valerie Vigoda
Amount Funded: $48k+
Number of Backers: 336
Average Pledge per Backer: $132
Duration: Oct 14 2014 – Nov 17 2014 (34 days)
Our second Kickstarter Staff Pick met its goal within 24 hours of launching. The creator and artist behind the project, Valerie Vigoda, explains, “Just Getting Good is my one-woman, live-looping, electric violin/vocal multimedia extravaganza recorded as an album and concert film.”
Valerie has had an exciting music career from touring with her band GrooveLily, Cyndi Lauper and others. She has also written songs for musicals, pop artists, and Disney movies.
The digital copy of the album is available in a reward for just $10. Other levels offer cool perks like tickets to the live taping of the concert film, copies of her past work (including songs that were never published), and coffee with Val herself!
#5. Bomber Barrel Bag
Creators: Bomber Barrel
Amount Funded: $135k+
Number of Backers: 1.7k+
Average Pledge per Backer: $78
Duration: Oct 14 2014 – Dec 13 2014 (60 days)
The Bomber Barrel team explains on Kickstarter, “We wanted to create a timeless duffel bag design that could be used by anyone, all the time, and be an essential item to take with you to the office, gym, on hikes, and in all of your adventures.”
The bags are durable (using military-grade clips) and ultra-lightweight. They come in the Mini Bomber and regular sized Bomber Barrel. Another reward the team is offering to backers is the Bomber Cord (a survival bracelet that can light a fire!).
#6. Andrej(A) – The Kickstarter Backed Documentary
Creators: Michael Hirschorn
Amount Funded: $47k+
Number of Backers: 319
Average Pledge per Backer: $151
Duration: Oct 14 2014 – Nov 13 2014 (30 days)
This week’s third Kickstarter Staff Pick is, “A film about supermodel Andreja Pejic’s transformative journey to womanhood, and her mission to pass courage on to the next generation.”
Last year Andreja came out as a transgendered woman, and has since noticed the widespread discrimination that still exists in the world today. This documentary aims to bring awareness while sharing Andreja’s story.
The creators of this campaign are also using it as an opportunity to let other transgendered individuals share their stories, which will be published as an e-book!
Conclusion
All of these projects have done extremely well early on because of their hard work, ingenuity, and commitment to high quality. It is very clear when looking at these Kickstarter pages that the creators are passionate about what they do and that they all want to improve people’s lives in one shape or form.
These projects still have a long way to go and have some exciting things in store for backers in terms of rewards and stretch goals!
