The core elements of a campaign…
In order to raise money from the crowd, you’re gonna need a few different things. These items or elements are there to help persuade strangers of the value of your project.
They include:
- Your pitch video
- Project title/description
- Campaign text
- Reward tiers
I go in-depth into how to put together an effective page in my course, the Kickstarter Launch Formula which is on Udemy | Audible | Amazon.
All too often, creators forget to SELL with their description, rewards, and campaign page. You can have the best product in the world, but without marketing, it won’t sell.
An Effective Pitch Video
There are tons of great tips when it tomes to putting together a high-quality crowdfunding video.
After watching it, backers should WANT your product. That’s easier said than done. A good starting point is to show people using your product and enjoying the benefits.
Monkey see monkey do. When your backers see people similar to themselves using their product, they’ll know that you made something specifically for them.
An effective pitch video draws together b-roll footage, compelling music, and an authentic voice to draw viewers in to your project.
Create an Appealing Title/Description
This is the first thing that viewers see when browsing the platform on Kickstarter or Indiegogo. If you botch this, no one’s going to click on your campaign.
Ideally, the title should not only convey what your project is, but also what it does. Who is it for. What are the benefits.
Really great product descriptions will also use SEO keywords to rank better when typing in those terms.
I discuss the importance of the page title in today’s video (and some killer tips).
One of the best things that you can do is create an “elevator pitch” that sums up your entire offering and include that as your project description.
Campaign Text = Sales Letter
It’s simple. Your campaign text is designed to do two things. Sell and inform.
After watching your video, backers will probably have some questions about your product. They’ll want to know more.
With your campaign page, you’re giving all the info they need to make a perfect decision. Make it easy for them to say yes by highlighting the top benefits, problems your product solves, and get into the features that make it all work.

A great campaign page no only uses effective copywriting, but it also pulls together images, gifs, and titles that will draw the reader to your page. It’s designed to make them want to read more.
Attractive Reward Tiers
Reward tiers or perks are basically the “packages” that you’re selling. You’re bundling up a bunch of value and delivering it at a discounted price.
Attractive reward tiers make use of copywriting, titling, and a limited-quantity nature to pull on those psychological triggers.
Unlike fundraising on GoFundMe or other websites, Kickstarter and Indiegogo functions as more of a pre-order. People are “claiming” rewards that you’ll produce in the future.
In most cases, they aren’t made yet! You’re going to be using the funding from the project to fulfill the initial production run.
You can find some potential reward ideas here.
