When comparing different fundraising websites, it call comes down to what you’re raising money for.

What are you fundraising for?

If you’re raising money for a charity, then chances are you’ll be using GoFundMe to raise money.

GoFundMe is well known for its ability to rally attention to a cause. You can use the website and platform to set up a campaign easily and share it with your following.

It’s also great for covering personal expenses like medical costs, memorial funds, travel fees, education costs, and more.

On the flip side, if you’re raising money to fund the creation of something like blog posts, youtube videos, podcast episodes, or comics, then Patreon is likely to be a better fit for you.

However, that’s not always the case.

When do you need the money?

If you need income on a recurring basis to help offset the expenses that go into creating something, then I’d read up a bit more on Patreon.

You won’t be using Patreon to get a lump sum, the same way you would on Kickstarter. Instead, you’re getting smaller recurring pledges that go towards your work.

With GoFundMe, you’re getting a lump sum when you run a fundraising campaign on the website. You can withdraw funds from the campaign over time, but in general, you’re raising a lot of money for something.

You have a fundraising goal. These aren’t people that are giving to you on a monthly basis, but rather as a one-time donation.

Depending on when you need the money, one website might be a better fit for you than another.

Actually, I discovered a ton of tricks that can help you earn recurring income from Patreon using subscription crowdfunding. This is dependable, repeat income to fuel your craft. You can really turn your passion into profit. You can learn more about the Patreon tricks I’ve discovered here.

What are you creating?

There is no such thing as FREE money.

You’re always giving something in exchange for those donations, pledges, or orders.

For example, with GoFundMe, people are giving money because they want to make an impact. I talk about this in my book, Crowdfunding Personal Expenses. You gotta make them FEEL special through gratitude and appreciation.

When it comes to Patreon you’re gaining patrons because people out there want to see your work exist in the world. They want to experience it, sample it, and get insider access to your work.

These patrons will be judging the quality of your work. They must be moved by it in order for them to want to support you creating it.

Does that make sense?

What are your future goals?

Are you trying to build a brand name for yourself?

Or, do you just want to raise some money and never do it again?

The longevity of your goals will certainly impact which website you choose to use. I talk about this in the video I put together for you.

For those out there that want to grow a cult following of supporters, then you’re gonna want to consider Patreon over GoFundMe.

That’s because, over time, your efforts add up! You’ll get more people supporting your work and more people giving on a monthly basis.

This is the foundation of a hardcore fanbase that will influence your work going forward.
