Having trouble coming up with an idea for a Kickstarter campaign?
You’ve seen the success of some of the projects out there and you want to get in on the action. The only problem is… you don’t yet have something to crowdfund.
You’re still searching for an idea that you can create a Kickstarter campaign around. Never fret! I’m going to clue you in on a few great project ideas that you can put into action.
These are ideas that I’ve come up with or those that are derivatives of other projects out there on the crowdfunding website. You can get some great ideas from looking at the top funded projects in 2017.
1. A New Sexy Fashionable Powerful Watch
We’ve seen a lot of successful watch campaigns on Kickstarter. It’s clear that the consumer base isn’t happy with what’s out there right now on Amazon or other ecommerce sites.
They want more variety, functionality, and of course, fashion appeal. As a result, several new watch projects have done really well on the platform.
Check out projects like these:
- Pebble: E-Paper Watch
- Redefining Premium Watches – Filippo Loreti
- Smart Luxury Watch Revolution – Filippo Loreti
- ZeTime: World’s first smartwatch with hands over touchscreen
- Ticwatch S & E: A Truly Optimized Smartwatch
2. New Versatile Travel or Stylish Carrying Bag
Kickstarter has totally changed the way that ecommerce startups get funding. Now, if you’re creating a new handbag, travel bag or luxurious carrying bag, you can get funding for the initial production run.
Many of these projects focus on having sleek design, lots of functionality, or be intended for a specific purpose, like carrying a camera.
Check out projects like these:
- The Everyday Messenger: A Bag For Cameras & Essential Carry
- The NOMATIC Travel Bag
- Använda. A Great F*cking Bag.
- The Leather Duffle Backpack 6-in-1 Set || Zip Pack Go
- The Theft-Resistant Drawstring Backpack
- Minimalist Leather Bags by Linjer
- JW WEEKENDER | Your Perfect Travel Partner | 3-bags-in-1
3. Innovative Camera Equipment, Accessories, and Bags
I’ve seen so many different camera-related projects on Kickstarter that it’s ridiculous. I think one of the reasons why is that there’s a strong community around photography and videography, so naturally good projects will spread.
Each person has different problems when it comes to cameras, including things like stabilizing shaky footage, carrying the camera, taking cool shots, or getting different types of photos.
Check out projects like these:
- eufyCam: The Wirefree Security Cam with 365-Day Battery
- Arsenal, the intelligent camera assistant
- FlowMotion Smartphone Stabilizer | The End of Shaky Videos
- Steadicam Volt Smartphone Stabilizer | Shake-Free Videos
- Pulse – Your Camera, Upgraded.
- Rigiet: The Most Advanced Stabilizer for Your Phone & GoPro
- The Lomography Lomo’Instant Camera
4. Productivity Planners, Journals, and Calendars
Ever since I’ve had John Lee Dumas on my podcast to talk about his Freedom Journal, I’ve been noticing lots of planners, journals, and calendars on Kickstarter. Some have even appeared on Shark Tank.
When you go down to your neighborhood CVS or Staples, there really aren’t that many innovative planners to choose from. Most are pretty bland. Entrepreneurs are capitalizing on this and creating new ways to organize your life.
Check out projects like these:
- The Everlast Notebook
- Passion Planner: The One Place for All Your Thoughts
- Rocketbook Wave: Cloud Connected Microwavable Notebook
- The BASICS Notebook: Simplify and Improve Your Life
- The Freedom Journal
5. New Jackets, Outwear, and Hoodies
It’s been said time and time again that customers won’t buy clothing online, and it’s 100% false. You can already see that with Amazon taking the marketshare of so many retail outlets. The same is true of Kickstarter.
New jackets, hoodies, and outwear are being funded all of the time. They serve a fundamental need in the marketplace. Often times, they stress their impressive functionality.

- The World’s Best TRAVEL JACKET with 25 Features | BAUBAX 2.0

- Italian Suede Bomber Jackets Without the Luxury Markup
- Ministry of Supply: The First Intelligent Heated Jacket
- The Ultimate American Jacket: Insulated With Bison Fiber
6. Fitness Accessories and Machines
Just like in the infomercials, fitness projects on Kickstarter are raking in the cash. This is because at-home fitness sucks! No one likes going to gyms (except me) and we’d all rather work out at home.
A lot of new products have emerged to help solve this traditional recurring pain-point. Usually, they are targeted towards certain types of exercises or environments.
Check out projects like these:
- SpineGym – Strong Back and Abs for life
- BodyBoss 2.0: The World’s 1st Home Gym You Can Take Anywhere
- OYO Personal Gym / DoubleFlex Black | OYO Fitness
- monkii bars Minimalist: ultra-portable bodyweight trainer
- XBAR | FLYT travel-friendly personal fitness system
7. Slim, Light, or Unique Wallet
It’s no secret – wallets do really well on Kickstarter. There have been a ton of these types of projects launched on the website. You can get in on this wallet craze while it lasts.
Many of these wallets are either easier to carry, slim, or include technology in some way. They are aimed at people looking for something more than a traditional wallet.
Check out projects like these:
- DJIN: The Wallet, Perfected.
- Fantom Wallet – The Quick Access Slim Wallet
- Dango Products | Redefining the Wallet
- The Micro Wallet – Doing more with less
- BASICS: Slim Minimalist Wallet with easy access to all Cards
8. Beer, Brewing, and Spirt Accessories
This is a category that is not only doing well on Kickstarter, but also with equity crowdfunding. As a rule of thumb, customers are willing to spend money on their hobbies and beer is no exception.
These products help with brewing, enjoying beer, or alcohol accessories that you can use to have a better time with your friends.
Check out projects like these:
- Pico – Craft Beer at Home
- NORTH DRINKWARE : Mt. Hood, The Oregon Pint Glass
- The Catalyst – Beer Fermentation Made Easy
- Spirit Steels – The ultimate beverage cooling device
- HOPii | Your Personal Micro-Brewery
9. Shoes, Sneakers, and Footwear
It’s incredibility hard to break into the footwear industry when you’re dealing with major retail outlets like DSW and established brands like Nike and Adidas. Now, you have a way to reach consumers directly.
We’ve seen an explosion of footwear-related projects launch crowdfunding campaign and rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars. Maybe there is something to this crowdfunding thing…. ha.

- The World’s Most Elegant Sneaker (concealed in a Ballerina)
- World’s First Custom Fit Sandals for Personalized Comfort
- Artisan Dress Shoes Built for the Modern Gentleman
- SKINNERS: Revolutionary Ultraportable Footwear with Silver
10. Bikes, electric scooters, and transportation
I’ve been seeing more transportation-related projects go on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. I’ve even had a few of these entrepreneurs on my podcast. A lot of the times, these fall into the accessories category or use interesting electric technology
A lot of people have said that you would never buy a bike or a scooter or something transportation-related online (because you gotta try it first). Not true! Just observe consumer behavior.
Check out projects like these:
- Taga 2.0 – The Ultimate, Most Affordable Family Bike
- Helix™ – The World’s Best Folding Bike

I hope that some of these give you some ideas for your own Kickstarter campaign. You just gotta brainstorm and see what’s out there.
You can listen to some of the success stories on my podcast and get motivated to start your own project ;).
