Let’s get into what makes up a sound Kickstarter marketing strategy.
Family and Friends
Your family and friends are the first line of attack when it comes to getting pledges on Kickstarter.
These are the people who have your back. They can contribute to the initial lump sum that’s needed to get your project off to the races. This will jumpstart the fundraising.
While it’s tempting to think that these people will discover and back your project of their own accord, you actually want a family to warm them up to the campaign.
I outlined how to do this effectively in the Kicsktarter Launch Formula which is on Udemy | Audible | Amazon.
There are simple tools you can use to make it so this isn’t a headache.
2nd and 3rd Degree Connections
After your family and friends, your 2nd and 3rd degree connections will help to contribute to your overall funding goal.
These are the people who are friends of friends. They might not directly know you, but they’ll see that one of their friends supported the project.
This can also be said of larger groups, like church groups or local organizations. You can use the public campaign and social media to take advantage of network effects.
There’s nothing more powerful then a good testimonial. The best kind of testimonial comes from someone that you already know and trust.
Strangers
Finally, you can reach strangers with your crowdfunding campaign. This only happens if you already have some social proof and funding.
If you do, you’ll be able to rope in Kickstarter super backers who are more likely to take a minute to watch your video when you have some initial validation.
Strangers can also find you through social media, like when your project is shared on Facebook or Twitter.
If a stranger comes to your project page and sees a thriving community, they’re gonna be more interested in the product.
Ultimately, the biggest campaigns appeal to strangers because they solve a problem, present an appealing unique solution, and do a great job of communicating the story.
Media Publications
Along with collecting backers on Kickstarter, you can also make use of media hits and media influence to drive pledges.
When a media publication writes about you, it’s almost like they’re certifying that your product is legit. They’re saying that you’re worth talking about.
You can strategically reach out to publications, pitch your story, and get them to write about your product. This will send an influx of traffic and pledges, along with some added viral sharing.
Here are some good press release websites that you can look into.
Alternative Marketing
Lastly, there are alternative marketing strategies that you can employ when launching a Kickstarter campaign.
For example, you could build a list of super backers. You could also do paid promotions like those on The Gadget Flow, hire an agency, or use CrowdfundingPR.
The name of the game is how do you get word out there to as many relevant people as possible, and do it in a timely manner.
When you’re able to drive relevant traffic to your page and you see a healthy conversion, it’s virtually guaranteed that your results will skyrocket.
I mentioned a lot of more great strategies on this video today.
Hope you enjoy it. Make sure you take notes.
