3 Key Tips For Starting A Nonprofit

Do you want to start a nonprofit?

In this video, I’m going to share three key tips for starting a new nonprofit organization.

All too often, students just jump into this process without examining these three points.

A nonprofit organization is designed to not only serve a demographic, but to also serve a larger societal need. You’ll only get funding if this need is genuine and you communicate it.

These three tips will help access how to better categorize that need, and also, how to craft a better ask.

With this vid, we talked about some of the key tips when it comes to start a nonprofit organization!

I shared a lot, but I wanted to get into a few more of these points.

I’ve put together a new GUIDE that’s packed with science-backed nonprofit fundraising methods, resources, strategies, and killer marketing methods.

You should check it out if you want to get more donations and you want to fast-track the entire process.

1. Who are you serving?

No. I don’t mean you core demographic.

I don’t mean the people you are trying to HELP.

I’m talking the group of individuals you are serving.

These are the people who make up your donor base. They are the individuals who will be giving you money on a monthly or annual basis.

They are the ones who actually enable you to do your work.

Take a second to think about who your “ideal donor” is. What do they care about? Where do they live? What does their life look like?

Answering these difficult questions will set you on the right path for appealing to their interests.

2. Who are you actually serving?

Once you’ve completed that step, it’s time to think about those in-need individuals you’ll be helping. This is the “cause” you’re trying to help.

Nonprofits exist for a reason. There has to be a critical reason that society has passed on this group of individuals.

Why is it that a nonprofit needs to exist?

What problem are you solving in the world?

Think about how you can measure the work you’ll be doing. Write down what metrics you can use to define your success.

Overall, this will make it a lot easier when you’re then going to donors and trying to convince them that their funds will make a REAL impact.

3. What is your nonprofit story?

The average person tunes out marketing messages.

They don’t pay attention to promotional activities.

They’ve been bombarded SO MUCH by advertisers, that they have gotten really good at not listening.

But, they are willing to experience a good story. They’ll take the time to listen, reflect, and even be emotionally moved by it.

You can use the story behind your nonprofit as a vehicle for delivering key information about your organization.

You can use it to get donors to put themselves in the shoes of the people you’re helping. A great story will create empathy (and these other giving-triggers).

4. How are you educating yourself?

The questions above are great items to re-visit time and time again. They will help keep you crystal clear on your mission.

At the same time, I gotta ask you, how are you educating yourself?

What are you doing to bring cutting-edge fundraising techniques into your business?

If you’re reading these words, then you’ll know that many nonprofits don’t put an emphasis on technology or effective fundraising techniques.

They’re old-school. They still rely on direct mail.

I’d like to change that.

That’s why I’ve put together some of my best cutting-edge fundraising techniques and shared them for you in this comprehensive guide.

Not only will you learn what the BEST nonprofits are doing, but you’ll also be able to help your core demographic more effectively.
