Kickstarter Launch Formula: The Crowdfunding Handbook for Startups, Filmmakers, and Independent Creators Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 85 ratings

If you're looking for a step-by-step launch framework for your upcoming Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign, this is the handbook for you! I'll teach you how to use crowdfunding to raise money online and bring your project to life.

You see, we’re at the beginning of a movement as transformative as the industrial revolution. Never before in history have authors, musicians, artists, and film producers been able to connect with massive online audiences and get funding for their creative work. The outdated media gatekeepers are quickly disappearing. You can now get funding directly from your fans and distribute your content online. If you’re a creative type, this is the BEST time to be alive.

But, it doesn’t stop there. This major change has also given rise to six and seven-figure online businesses. As a fellow entrepreneur, I know that one of the most common excuses for not quitting your job and launching that startup company is because you don’t have the money. Now, in a few short weeks, you can have all of the capital you need to launch and grow a thriving ecommerce business.

It’s no longer a crazy idea to pursue your passion. In fact, more and more millennials are doing just that. I should know, I’m one of them! When I first started blogging about Kickstarter in 2012, I had no idea that crowdfunding would become a multi-billion-dollar industry. I was just a Junior in college, writing a mini-thesis on how different variables affected fundraising success on Kickstarter (for you nerds out there, it was a logistic regression).

Flash forward several years, and I’m now one of the top experts in the crowdfunding industry. I started the blog, CrowdCrux, which did over one million views in 2015. I set up a forum called KickstarterForum, which has attracted over six thousand members. I even launched a popular podcast called Crowdfunding Demystified, which has racked up more than 100 positive reviews in iTunes. Finally, I also put out training videos on YouTube and I am proud to say that the channel is experiencing rapid growth.

That all sounds impressive, but actually, when I first stumbled on the website, Kickstarter, I didn't have a clue how it worked. It seemed super confusing and I had SO MANY questions. Since 2012, I’ve come to master the platform and discover the ins and outs of how crowdfunding really works. I’ve published many of my findings online and I've been being linked to by sites like CNN, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, and even The Wall Street Journal.

In this guide, I’m going to share with you the step-by-step launch strategy for absolutely crushing it on Kickstarter. In no time at all, you’ll be raising money for your startup or creative project. I’ll make it super easy to copy and implement these tactics and strategies. I’ll also share some Jedi Mind Tricks that most marketers don’t know about. Before you know it, you’ll be a crowdfunding expert!

Now, I bet you're thinking... “boy this all sounds like a lot of work. Do I really have to learn all of this? I just want to get funding for my project.” Truth be told, it is A LOT to master, which is why having the right teacher can make all of the difference. I’ll make sure that you master this material as quickly as possible, so that you can stop fundraising and get back to doing what you love!

Either way, whether you decide to run your own Kickstarter campaign, or outsource certain aspects, it pays to know what you're doing. I want to help you smash your Kickstarter goal and then I hope you come on my podcast as a crowdfunding success story.

It’s time to get serious about making that business you’ve been dreaming about a reality. It’s finally time to get paid for your creative work. Let’s get started!

If you are serious about launching a campaign, this is a must-read. Period.

It's a well-structured overview of all the things you need to do. It guides you through all the phases, from generating product ideas to product development to post-launch and e-commerce.

If you are launching a campaign you definitely have some kind of expertise here and there, but this is by far the best book (maybe the only one) caters specifically for crowdfunding. I've read hundreds of blog posts and watched countless Youtube videos (which are all helpful,) but there's nothing that consolidates all the relevant info into a well-structured written document (AKA a book.) I wish I started with this book and it would have saved me hundreds of
hours, which, as you know, is the most valuable and most scarce asset of an entrepreneur.

With that said, this book is just a starting point. While this book is great at giving you an overview, helping you set reasonable expectations and covering your blind spots, you have to go much deeper into each topic this book covered. And luckily, this book is resource-rich and the info is very current and super relevant.

    I'll close with this:
This book is worth 10x it's price. And that's an understatement.

    My favorite book on crowdfunding!
I'm just preparing myself for my upcoming launch, and I feel I saved 10.000 USD. (at least) I just made a ton of notes. I have a very small budget as a solopreneur and for me, it was very important to find a cheap way to understand how crowdfunding works and how can I create a successful project. Now it's clear, and I know I have six months to prepare. I have a great action plan. Definitely suggest buying the book and implement the strategies. Thanks Sal

This book is a good addition to my Ecommerce resources. It, not only gives the fundamentals about Kickstarter (& even Indiegogo), also goes beyond recommending other resources for advance Kickstarter Strategies. Thanks Sal for this book! I also got your Udemy course & already watching it.

This work was an inspiration for me. I'm taking action, executing my plan.

Anyone considering the "untraditional" but "soon-to-be-mainstream" path to raising a business should read this book.

Thank you, Salvador, for sharing it with us.

I am not sure if I learned anything new. Typical strategies such as building a pre-launch email list, asking friends & family, importance of the campaign video etc. No information about his own campaigns. A person who writes a crowdfunding book should have created products and run campaigns for them. It's unclear if he has ever gone this process for his own products (not for client products)

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacking a clear strategy and formula
Reviewed in Germany on October 26, 2021
I oredered this book as a "First introduction" to crowdfunding world but really, gotta point out that print quality is poor (do judge book by its cover!), it is more like a magazine not a book (added screenshots are blurry, text is fuzzy etc). What is more it is really thin in matter of "how to launch your campaign" formula and it is fullfilled by endless pages with lists of different programs and sites which you could use - had a feeling that author was lacking data/skills for actual "plan" or "formula" and just tried to get more pages in numbers by filling it with "nothing".

I have a good comparison basis as well, because I bought "Crowfunded" (Mark Pecota) book as well and this is the real thing!! to get going and master your crowdfunding launch - everything is there. So, I wont say it is totally useless (no book about something is), but I will go with other books on the market any time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read - Keep for Reference

    ***IMPORTANT***
The only thing I would add. Make SURE you plan to get you Kickstarter approval at LEAST a month before launch. DO NOT WAIT. I write from personal experience. If KS declines, the turn-around is 3 days (or more).
Especially if you have a lot of product graphics and potentially animations etc. I quote:
"Simulations of functionality, photorealistic renderings, and composited retouched photos are prohibited, even if your current prototype looks very similar to them. No exceptions."

Painful if you are on the critical path and your project has no flexibility to react to creative challenges.

    You've been warned...

Good book - more attention should be paid to affiliate viral marketing and margin sharing with agencies to get the blockbuster numbers you read about. It almost sounds as if 'build it and they will come'.

    NOT SO.

Pre-marketing and big ad campaigns are getting the $1M -- but they are spending to get it.

And if you already know/read about Kickstarter, this book is stilla great tools. You can have all the point you need to face in one book! Congratulation and many thanks Salvador

1.0 out of 5 stars A good overview of how to run a campaign, but don’t hire him...!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 17, 2021
Just read the book and leave it at that!
The book was quite interesting although it just washes over the concept of running a Kickstarter campaign, it doesn’t actually tell you how to do it, it’s not a real step by step guide.
I fell hook line and sinker with this guy and actually employed him to run my campaign, this is when I realised that although he knows a lot about crowdfunding, he knows very little about promoting it correctly.
This guy managed to get my Facebook ad account banned permanently, and I am unable to get it back.
What started out as a promising campaign that reached two thirds of the funding goal within 48 hours of launch fell flat and had to be cancelled, all due to his failure to do what he said he would.
He had people working for him that couldn’t do their jobs either? All I kept getting was apologies, that’s not good enough when you spend thousands of pounds with someone who is supposed to be a professional at what they do?
Read the book by all means, it has some good insights, but avoid hiring this guy at all costs..!
