How OAXIS Raised Over $57K on Pozible

Just over a year ago, in August 2014, OAXIS successfully completed their first Pozible campaign for the Star.21 Fitness Band.

star.21 fitnessStar.21 is a fitness tracker that promotes long lasting healthy lifestyle habits through a unique gaming experience. That project raised over $290K from 1,386 supporters – with a modest funding goal of $16,233.

The team did it again in August 2015, raising over $67K for the OAXIS Wellness Suite (featuring OAXIS’ body analyzer, Bluetooth water bottle, and fitness bands).

OAXISThis time 913 supporters pledged to the campaign, putting OAXIS at about $51K over their low $16K funding goal by the end of the project. If you missed the Pozible campaign, you can currently purchase items from the OAXIS Wellness Line here.

Since OAXIS was founded in 2010 the company has received 28 international and regional design awards, including five IF Design Awards and two Computex Design & Innovation Gold Awards. I recently got to ask the OAXIS team a few questions about their latest Pozible campaign, including some about their strategy and what comes next:

1. Why did you choose Pozible as a crowdfunding platform?

We launched our first fitness band on Pozible back in 2014. We decided to come back to Pozible to launch the Wellness Line as we wanted to engage the same group of backers that supported us in 2014. In addition, Pozible team offered us great support with the campaign in a number of ways.

2. What steps did you take to prepare for the launch day?

Prior to the launch, we reached out to fans on our social media pages and conducted media outreach.

On the day of the Pozible campaign, we held a media event in Beijing to demonstrate the product to tech journalists and bloggers.

During the media event, our staff hosted massive group chats on WeChat and actively posted demonstrations and product introduction to the participants.

3. This campaign is launching four new products! How do you communicate this to backers?

The products in the OAXIS Wellness Line are designed to both work beautifully alone or together. By using the products together, users are provided a holistic picture of their health.

On our page, we described the features and benefits of each individual product before going into details of entire system to avoid information overload. Our video definitely helped to communicate the full benefits of each product as well as the line overall.

4. If you could go back, is there anything you would change about this project?

We would likely have condensed the support tiers in the campaign. With four products offered in various bundles, there were a multitude of options, which can lead to confusion as far as deciding which tier to get.

5. What are the some of the next steps you are focusing on?

The engineers and developers are working hard to make sure that the products can be delivered on time, while the marketing and business development teams are getting in touch with partners to bring the entire range to the retail market.

We’ll also place a continuous focus on improving the apps to bring more and more features to the products.

6. Do you have any final advice for others who are thinking about crowdfunding a new product?

It is important to manage the expectations in setting a realistic crowdfunding goal. Work out the minimum amount that you need to develop the product.

There are more opportunities to sell your product after the campaign.

Conclusion

OAXIS was well-prepared for the launch of their campaign. They reached out to potential backers via social media and media outreach beforehand. Using an event, blogs and demonstrations, they showed potential users how their products worked to help you get fit.

I thought they made a good point that it’s good to keep your rewards simple, but still offer a few different options to choose from. As OAXIS mentioned, sometimes too many combinations can get confusing for backers and potential turn them away from pledging to your project.

The team also made a good point about keeping your funding goal realistic. Remember that you can always use e-commerce platforms to pre-sell your product once your campaign is over.
