Working Mom Defies The Odds – How She Raised $20k+ (Without Marketing Experience)

Jodi McMaster is the Author of Circus Vowels, a 1st Grade Teacher, a mom, AND an entrepreneur.

After launching her campaign on Kickstarter, she was able to rack up more than $20k+ to create a book that helps children learn how to read and an interactive reading kit for teachers to use in classrooms.

Her story is so inspirational, I don’t even know where to begin, so I’m going to let you read her email to me…

“I have been listening to your Podcast to and from work, I have a 45 minute commute, for the past 6 weeks. You have taught me so much, so I wanted to let you know how I am defining the odds, yet still using your tools! I have reached 49% of my goal in just 5 days. I am hoping for $20,000 and have raised $9,935.00! I am geeked however,

  • I don’t have a huge social media following.
  • I don’t have a large email list, although I am still working on building one!
  • I don’t know anything about marketing, although I am educating myself.
  • This is my 2nd job, well technically my 3rd. I am a 1st grade teacher by day, mom in the evening and entrepreneur late night! LOL
  • I have ZERO employees, yep it’s all me baby! LOL
  • I don’t have a very big budget to spend.

What I do have is:

  • A great, positive attitude.
  • An amazing work ethic and a “get things done now” mindset.
  • Willingness to try new things: pretty much anything you or the people you are interviewing suggest – within my budget!
  • I am kind to others, trusting and positive – This has gotten me very far.
  • 8 segments on different news stations around the country.
  • Loads of FB posts and shares.
  • I am likable, not to toot my own horn, but BEEP! BEEP!
  • Oh, and lucky for me I require very little sleep to function. LOL”

After sending me this email, Jodi went on to double the amount she raised.

I had to have her on the show. Not only will you be amazed by her story, but she also shares tons of great tactical tips for a killer Kickstarter campaign. Enjoy.
